This study investigates the teratogenicity of fumonisin B1 (FB1), which disrupts sphingolipid metabolism and depletes glycosphingolipids via inhibition of ceramide synthase, leading to neural tube defects. However, the exposure route is intraperitoneal injection at high dose (20 mg/kg), a systemic exposure, and the ingredient (glycosphingolipids) is an endogenous substance depleted, not directly tested. Thus, it indirectly suggests that glycosphingolipid deficiency may be teratogenic, but not direct evidence, and the exposure route differs from topical cosmetic use.
